Glock Generation 4 Recall

September 21st, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GLOCK ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY REPLACEMENT OF RECOIL SPRING ASSEMBLIES IN GEN4 PISTOLS

Replacement Program Limited to Gen4 Model with GLOCK Covering All Shipping Expenses

SMYRNA, GA – September 6, 2011 –

GLOCK Inc.announces that it is voluntarily exchanging the recoil spring assembly (RSA) on its new Gen4 pistols shipped between August, 2009, to July 21, 2011, to ensure each pistol’s performance meets the company’s demanding standards. With several variations of the RSA in the market today, GLOCK’s goal with this voluntary exchange is to standardize the RSA to gain the best possible performance in each pistol.

GLOCK’s product development team has modified various elements of the RSA. The new RSA compensates for all design modifications made to the Gen4 and allows the pistols to function up to GLOCK’s rigid quality standards and reliability goals.

Consumers should note that Gen4 G26 and G27 models will not require a modified recoil spring.

“We are moving proactively and quickly to standardize this part of the pistol. This is a voluntary exchange specifically for the new Gen4 models,” said Gary Fletcher Vice President GLOCK Inc. “We have developed a program for consumers to send in their existing recoil spring assemblies and receive new ones at no cost.”

The replacement of the Gen4 pistol RSA can be performed as part of the regular field-strip process; consumers do not need to take the Gen4 pistol to an armorer. Consumer’s are urged to call 1-877-745- 8523 to order their new recoil spring.

For more information on the details and shipping requirements on the replacement program, visit www.TeamGLOCK.com.

Wolf Hunts Will Go Forward

Court denies stay of wolf hunts in Idaho, Montana

By Laura Zuckerman
SALMON, Idaho | Fri Aug 26, 2011 12:46am EDT
(Reuters) – A U.S. appeals court refused on Thursday to block wolf hunts planned in Idaho and Montana while conservation groups press a legal case against an unprecedented act of Congress that lifted federal protection of the animals.

More than 1,500 wolves in Idaho and Montana were removed from the U.S. endangered species list, giving the two states largely unfettered control over the animals, in legislation attached to a stopgap budget bill Congress approved in April.

The delisting came amid a legal battle between environmentalists and the government over whether wolves, which were hunted, trapped and poisoned to near extinction decades ago, had successfully recovered in the Northern Rockies.

Environmental groups sought to overturn the congressional action, which marked the first time an animal has been delisted through legislation rather than a process of scientific review established under the Endangered Species Act. Environmentalists argued that Congress overstepped its authority in doing so.

A federal judge earlier this month sided with the Obama administration, which argued Congress had the authority to carve out an exception to the Endangered Species Act for a particular animal, like the gray wolf.

WildEarth Guardians, Alliance for the Wild Rockies and others sought to restore federal safeguards to wolves by petitioning the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

On August 13, those groups asked the court to stay wolf hunting and trapping planned in Idaho and Montana until the case was decided on its merits.

Idaho plans to reduce its wolf population from about 1,000 to no fewer than 150 in a hunting seasons that open on Tuesday and by trapping. Montana has set a hunting quota of 220 wolves out of a population of 566 in a season that starts in September.

In denying environmentalists’ request to temporarily halt the hunts, a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit agreed with the administration — joined by the two states and hunting and farm groups — that the hunts would not jeopardize recovery of the iconic animal.

“We are discouraged we didn’t win a stay of execution for wolves, but we are cautiously optimistic that we will win our lawsuit to protect wolves from future persecution,” John Horning, WildEarth Guardians executive director, said in a statement.

The 9th Circuit has set an expedited hearing date in November for the case.

Wolves were reintroduced to the Northern Rockies in the mid-1990s over the objections of ranchers and hunters. They blame wolves for preying on livestock and reducing herds of big-game animals like elk.

Wolves killed 148 cows in Idaho in 2010 out of the state’s 2.2 million head of cattle, according to government figures. A recent survey by Idaho wildlife managers shows elk populations exceed or meet biologists’ objectives in the vast majority of the state’s hunting areas.

NRA Fights Obama Gun Control

NRA to fight Obama’s Southwest gun control push

National Rifle Association officials say that the rule, from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, will be appealed the minute the agency sends the demand letters to dealers in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas regarding the sales of the weapons equipped with detachable magazines and capable of shooting a round larger than .22 caliber.

Obama Administration Plans New Gun Control

Friday, July 08, 2011

As we pass the six-month anniversary of the tragic Tucson shooting, multiple press reports indicate the Obama administration is planning to unveil new, but unspecified, gun control initiatives.

At a Thursday briefing, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said, “As you know, the President directed the Attorney General to form working groups with key stakeholders to identify common-sense measures that would improve Americans’ safety and security while fully respecting Second Amendment rights.  That process is well underway at the Department of Justice with stakeholders on all sides working through these complex issues. And we expect to have some more specific announcements in the near future.”

Carney provided no further details on the initiatives, but he isn’t the only one saying something is in the works.  According to a related article on NPR.org, U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) said, “I have spoken to the president. He is with me on [gun control], and it’s just going to be when that opportunity comes forward that we’re going to be able to go forward.” And longtime anti-gun activist Sarah Brady has said that in March, the president told her “I just want you to know that we are working on [gun control] … We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar.”

Rest assured we’ll report any significant developments in the weeks ahead.

Test Your Self Defence Bullets

Test Bullets For Yourself

Full story: Handguns

By Bob Campbell

Most of us want to know if the ammo we’ve chosen for self-defense will perform like we want it to out of our chosen handgun. While ammo makers use expensive, high-grade ballistic gelatin in which to test their bullets, what is the average Joe to do?

Fortunately, it’s easy to do your own testing with a bucket and some wet newsprint. Typically, the results I get when using newsprint understate penetration by about an inch and overstate expansion by an insignificant margin.  Click here for more.
